There are crazy homeless people everywhere in America. San Francisco had the most noticeable homeless population that I've seen so far, and I've travelled quite extensively throughout the US.
Where I live in Northern Virginia we've seen an increase in homeless over the last couple of years due to the installation of more accessible public transportation (metro rails) throughout the region.
I feel really bad for them, I used to be a lot more willing to give them money but can't remember the last time I've actually "spared some change" for a homeless guy ... It's not even that I'm worried that they'll spend it on drugs or whatever, I just don't like giving cash to people standing on the side of the streets or near convenience stores / gas stations / whatever.
