You are afraid to be hurt by being rejected. Withdrawing will keep you fragile, and thus perpetuate your situation. Rejection is painful, but loneliness is even worse. Be aware of this.

For me I am socially anxious and don't have interests (I have few interests but no interest in sharing them deliberately), so I find it difficult to seek meeting people. If you have something that you are willing and interested in sharing, then some group meetings is a good place to start.
