Yes I believe it is often, but it is also complicated. We have layers to our energy bodies, physical, emotional, mental, spiritual. When an imbalance or damage is serious enough, it becomes called an illness. What you describe is feeling like an energy sponge. Most of us aren't raised learning how to protect our aura field, or to cleanse, heal, energize, calm it.
Humans are like quartz crystals, conduits of energy. Bipolar for whatever reason may be compared to a very strong crystal. Absorbing too much outer people's energy, it gives us anxiety, depression, heaviness, rage. Then at times we are misfiring out our energy all over the place, feeling woohoo, extra creative, hypersexual, light and free. My physical weight even fluctuates up or down during an episode.
Trying to just shut out the darkness is tricky, as it's still there whether we see it or not.
