I can't agree with this more
CBT requires a lot of work - which is of itself some measure of distraction - but teaches you how to challenge those negative thoughts and core beliefs and strategize new thoughts and resulting behaviours accordingly. It is probably the most imporatant tool in my own box of coping mechanisms.
It might be worth it to invest in a CBTworkbook. What I will say though is that it is really important that you take your time working your way through it and aactually follow through with completing the homework.
