I think I can relate. The difference is that I lived a gay lifestyle for years. After hitting 40 I began to lose the libido and realized my particular 'taste' in men was the same as it was when I was 25. When you think, look and act 40 or older the 25 year olds tend to run the other way. So the sexual activity disappeared. On the other hand I began to interact with 'straight' guys at work or in the hood and found myself attracted to them physically and in a emotional way. I found the straight guys less pretentious and I had more in common with them. Unfortunately knowing I was hiding my attraction to them I had to back away for fear of...well you know. At 59 I have given up on any romance or intimacy. I do however miss the companionship of a nice looking man who has some brains and is aware of my feelings towards him. A quick kanoodle would always be nice. But, alas not anymore.
