Millions of people have been helped by medications. Some have been hurt. A person has to weigh the pros and cons of taking them. IMO if there is a drug that can help you to get better physically or mentally and the alternative is to get worse or just never better, you should really think about it. There are several good drugs that most people do well on. There are people out there with agendas, meaning some push drugs despite how much they might hurt people, and others are the opposite, anti-drug and look for negative media and unscientific studies to support their agenda.

I have been on and off meds for almost 30 years. I have gone off a few times hoping I would do well without. Each time I had to go back on my meds, proving I need them to function normally.

I hope you can find help with or without drugs. There are natural methods you can try. But if you are in a crisis situation, don't mess around. Get help. Call 911 if you feel you might hurt yourself or others. Take meds temporarily to get normalized if necessary. Then you can experiment with other things once you are stabilized.

And DO see the psychiatrist. They won't make you take anything if you don't want to. It's a good place to start to get well.
