Epilim is sodium valproate, a form of Depakote, an anticonvulsant that suppresses seizures in epileptics that is also prescribed as a mood stabilizer for bipolars and schizophrenics. I take 1500 mg of Depakote nightly without experiencing conspicuous side effects, but the drug is potentially dangerous enough to have an FDA black box warning for possible lethal liver damage, lethal pancreatitis and a variety of birth defects. If your prescribing doctor didn't think to mention this to you, I wonder why. A responsible doctor will prescribe a regular liver panel blood test to confirm that the drug isn't compromising your liver. A well-known side effect of valproate is hair loss, although I've been spared this particular indignity so far. Have you tried lithium?
Thanks for this!
