My husband has been a smoker since I have known him, and before, probably 25 years. He has never even had the desire to stop until now. I am not a smoker, but really don't have a problem with it, have never really nagged on him to stop.

He had an incident a few years back that I thought was going to make him stop, but it didn't. He had broken his foot, had surgery, 3 metal plates, 7 screws, and then it got infected. The doctor never told him that he had to stop smoking after the surgery. He ended up having to have a pic line, and two more surgeries to debride and skin graft. After the infection, the plastic surgeon who was fixing his foot told him he had to stop at least til he was healed. He did, which was a good 3 months. But then he went right back, cause he didn't want to stop.

Last month he got pneumonia and ended up in the hospital. He was also septic. It scared the crap out of him. Since then, he and I have just passed this terrible cold back and forth, and tons of coughing. I do always worry about him when he starts coughing, since he is a smoker. He had to stop smoking while in the hospital obviously, and then at home for a couple weeks. This is when he decided he was going to quit, but knows he cant do it on his own, so he has a doctors appointment today at 3pm to talk to him about Chantix or other smoking cessation help.

I am really hopeful.
