I tried playing rugby - mostly drawn to it from having read way too many british boys at school books. I was a terrible rugby player and was used mostly as distracting fodder for the other team to pound on while the good players took care of the ball. Scrums were terrifying places to be (but I did love the language) I remember being told once that my job was to stop some Amazon woman and when I latched on to her legs - it was as if a fly had landed on an elephant - and she merrily ran down the field with me attached and flopping along ineffectively until at last, she flicked me off.
