As long as you are of age in the state you live in, you have the right to full confidentiality, so long as your therapist does not feel you're in immediate danger of hurting yourself or others. This is something I'm sharing since when I was starting out, I thought every less-than-desirable little thought I had was going to get me "locked up" or would be forwarded to my parents (I was 14 so I was concerned, but I had nothing to worry about!)

Don't get frustrated if your first therapist doesn't feel like a good match for you. You can always switch and it might take a few tries. It's a hard truth since it can be overwhelming, however don't feel you're stuck with your first one!

I think it's a good step you're taking, and it can be very hard to admit you may need some help. You're doing a good thing Best wishes!

Thanks for this!
