Hello vrienda. My first bout with depression was similar to yours... Kicked off by a traumatic (to me) event in my life, and my depression symptoms were certainly appropriate for the situation, except that they did not go away and I became increasingly suicidal, until I had to call a hotline.
It is quite possible that this might clear up on its own but if the life event triggered some brain chemistry or whatever might be causing your depression it might not... And as others have said going longer might make it harder to treat.
Why wait? Help is available. Talk to a therapist, maybe they can help or maybe they can lead you to treatment. Right now my new therapist seems to be helping me greatly and I am hopeful that I will not have to go back on any medications... But medications are available if that is what you need to get you back on track and to stop thinking of suicide.
Good luck to you and please continue to post here, this place can be very helpful with advice, support, and understanding.
