I have sleep apnea and so wake up many times a night. Perhaps there is some correlation.

Any one else have any experience with this sort of thing?
I have olfactory hallucinations (rotten chicken), but not as an edge of sleep thing.

When you say edge of sleep, it brings to mind hypnogogic (edge of going into sleep) and hypnopompic (edge going out of sleep) hallucinations. They are of a sort that are pretty common and " normal". (A lot of people freak out and are much-relieved to learn this.)

Of course, I don't know if they are what is happening, but it might be. I'm very familiar with them in the visual realm. They can be über-real. Like 'getting up and walking across room reaching out to touch' real.

Just took a peek to refresh knowledge. Besides being fairly common, they are commonly associated with narcolepsy, insomnia and anxiety. Given that, it wouldn't be surprising if your sleep apnea is involved.

What do you think?
