Personally, I've always thought that was so weird that they didn't want you to be "real" about addiction in the meetings. I do not attend them for that very reason. I tried meetings for ten years with no success, rehabs also. This time, I did it on my own, with the help of these forums and my father (also a recovering addict). I quit cold turkey and have been clean for 7 months. I think that too many people put their sobriety in the hands of the people in the NA meetings. Getting sober can't come from those meetings, it must come from within. That being said, it took me ten years to find it within myself. Meetings work well for some, and don't for others. People from NA will always say that you can't do it alone, but yeah you can. I did.
