Welcome back.
Lamictal is an anticonvulsant approved for BP by the FDA.
Most people consider they are taking Lamictal, and in reality are taking Lamotrigine.
Which is the generic formulation, but it's not the same.
It has proven different in pacients with epilepsy. The intended target originally.
Whereas Lamotrigine does not prevent seizures as well as the brand name.
With that out of the way, Either one is supposed to be good for depression.
But not for a deep depression. Not for strong mania either.
I've been taking Lamotrigine for about four years and was manic 90% of the time.
I was at 200mg. Now 100mg and tapering off. I think it stopped working for me.
I'm in a 10 month depression and it didn't pull me up. I'm on Lithium now.
Still tweaking to find the right dose, but feeling better.
My opinion is that it is an antidepressant pretending to be a mood stabilizer.
I'm wary now of medications with no side effects.
Some find it sedating, some activating, it does neither for me. My .02.
Thanks for this!
