This description reminded me of a Star Trek episode ( had to look up the name,Return of the Archons) the town is over friendly and polite ...until the clock strikes 6... The red hour where everyone runs wild in the streets..they rape, the pillage and destroy. Maybe the red hour occurred when you were sleeping?
