There is a stepwise procedure described to give an answer using a 1–8 (interval) scale, but you may also answer with natural language (I am a psycholinguist, and/so I am certainly not against that).
You may also use a 1–10 scale and I will normalise that to an 1–8 scale: likewise, 1–4 is fine if that would be easier.

I have made it overly complicated maybe and you're certainly not the only one that thinks so.
