Generic drugs only need to have the same active ingredient as their brand name counterparts. Also, there is an "acceptable range" for how close the generic drug has to be.

I've heard that generic drugs only have to be 80% similar to their brand name counterparts. So, 80% of the pill has to be identical to the brand name, but the remaining 20% can be whatever they want. Maybe that's why you're getting these weird effects?
