It isn't quitting. It is a leave of absence. In my case, I was able to withdraw for the rest of the semester, and when I returned I just re-enrolled in the course I was taking when I left. I didn't even have to pay tuition again or anything. Your school probably can offer something similar. All it took in my case was for the school therapist I was seeing to get the ball rolling. He spoke to the Dean of my school and very generally told him that I was needing to take a leave of absence and that I would return the next semester. He took care of the paperwork and that was all it took. I took off the rest of the spring semester and the summer, then returned in the fall to finish up.
