My journal seems to be leading the way.
I also have just now starting understanding the way my "internal system" is how it works. I hang out with my journal by my side. I try to have my mind open to whatever wants to be heard, and I respect what I hear. I just write what comes to me, without trying to edit it. It seems to speak from the experiences it knows, that I can't recall by will. I just write what I hear.
When I get to talk with my counselor, he is open to what has been brought out and we talk about it. No pushing from me, with my journal, or him with what he wants me to journal about. He does, sometimes, give me something to focus on and sometime it happens, other times, other things come out. It's very open and not confining.
