It might actually improve your life to have it treated. Much more straightforward treatment than with many other diagnoses. Do the testing if you like, try the Ritalin if you're not opposed to pharmaceuticals, and then investigate cognitive behavioral therapy or neurofeedback because they can be every bit as effective as pharmaceuticals without the side effects.
I have BPD and ADD as well as depression. I only take the ADD medication on days when I have multiple meetings to attend; most days, I am able to cope with tricks and techniques I've learned over the years to help me be productive in spite of the ADD.
