We have a different make up that turns us into addicts.
Many people drink, gamble, smoke pot, etc. Only a few get addicted.
Now, those of us with addictive personality, get compulsive about everything.

Ah. Think I just had a light bulb moment. I know they say addictive personality is not a thing. And I agree. I'm wired to getting obsessive, carried away and compulsive. All the things that "should" suggest belonging to the construct of "addictive personality". And yet... Nope. Never had addiction issues. All the predisposition never played out that way.
Our personalities don't turn us into addicts. Addictions do. And maybe that's their point. To have these propensities and believe in the idea of an addictive personality can prove to be fatalistic. Whereas someone who isn't wired that way might feel some false sense of immunity.
THEY aren't prone to getting carried away, so it won't happen to them. All the while, the substances and activities don't care what you believe. They're equal opportunity.
It seems to be a concept that doesn't serve a positive function. We're not doomed
or immune, so why endorse something that sets people up to believe that? The cost's too high.
Just a thought.
