I agree with this. I totally did this to JD; I think I even said it, that I cared deeply for him, but that I could recognize that I was spiraling and I needed to end things before I either hurt him, or pushed him to a point where he'd *poof* (That's disappear ) And, lo and behold, we talked through that and made it a little while longer and it became a self-fulfilling prophecy.
