that said there are ways that I utilize when I come home from work and I dont want to hear the bustle and hubbub of city life and living in close proximity of central park, broadway shows, partying and general other human being going on with their lives...

headphones or just turn on my tv, radio, stereo, ....
ear plugs
camp out in the bathroom (ever notice most bathrooms have so many layers in their ways its relatively quiet in there, unless of course you have toddlers screaming outside the door with their faces trying to look under the door ...)
taking a relaxing bath or shower,
watch a movie with my cell phone or tv using headphones. (usually by the end of a 2 hour movie the noise level outside has decreased)

my point each person has their own coping tools for what will calm and relax them when under stressful situations.

suggestion maybe talking with your own treatment provider you and your treatment provider can prepare for the next time the noise level of others going about their lives affects you.
We are social beings with boundaries. Craziness is not something social. I escaped downtown to get a quiet neighborhood. There is no park around me. All are families living quietly. No place to camp or play outside. What do you mean by "treatment provider"?
