Hello Thing,
I am an advocate of cold turkey. Reason? I think it is important to feel the full pain, depth, and complexity of your addiction so that you are truly humbled by it. This will help eliminate any and all delusions that you are in control.
Other than this, go with the one day at a time thing. Just try to commit to 24 hours without using. Many times this is far too long and we need to go hour to hour. You will have to literally Mantra "I can make it to 11 am without using" over and over until 11 comes, then change the Mantra to "I can make it until noon without using" etc etc making sure to actually feel the full power of powerlessness.
Good luck. It does get easier - for me this did not mean easier after a few days or weeks. It took several months into years. It's truly a lifelong struggle in my case. Seek humility.
