It wasn't completely under my control and events and other characters in this definitely had wills of their own. It wasn't symptomatic of a disassociation disorder since I was in complete control over when it happened and the duration.
I tried to explain this when I was little but since no one else could do it I was made fun of for it a lot and stopped discussing it and stopped doing it for a while too. Every once in a while I still do it and have been doing it more often recently before bed both to relax as well as use it to inspire short stories. I have been curious if there is a name for it or if anyone else does that. Was this some type of meditation that anyone here is aware of? Thank you.

I believe you are talking about lucid dreaming. A state between sleep and full consciousness. It's a very powerful thing and I encourage you to do it often! I did it a lot as a kid too! I'm 51 now and have picked up on the practice again. Best to do before sleep or just after you wake up. Your mind is in this "inbetween" state.
Many of the create your own realty gurus suggest that when in that lucid state it is good to think and visualize your dreams and FEEL what it is like to "be" whatever it is you are desiring.
Lol, sorry I veered of there!

Look up lucid dreaming. It's cool stuff and even cooler that you stumbled upon it organically as a kid!!! Powerful stuff!
