Thanks for letting me know it's not just the U.S.
It's literally "in your face" if you happen to go to the store on such a "weekend." Last week I had to go grocery shopping. Right by the door is all the flowers, balloons, cards, candy etc., they want you to buy.
I was also thinking why don't we also have a Daughter's Day, Son's Day, Niece's Day, etc. Turn the tables on them a bit, let them see how it feels to hear endless pitches to "get that perfect gift and show how much you care" to someone who doesn't talk to you.
I'm so relieved this "weekend" is over. Even the weather forecast pointed out what "holiday" was yesterday and how the weather will be great for you and mom. SO painful for me. Thank goodness it's over, at least for another year (which goes way too fast for me now). I can now watch/listen to the weather and news again......I figured if something is important enough, the EAS (Emergency Alert System) will break in to programming. I always have either the radio or TV on, so I won't miss it.
I listened to Bollywood music all weekend. I never did before and found it festive and energizing. Certainly different. I stumbled onto it, looking for a news station I haven't listened to in years. It was sold to a foreign language media company. Not a single WORD on Mother's Day since it's an American/UK thing.
I hate Valentine's Day too. If it falls on a Friday or Monday, it's a "weekend." All it does is remind me that nobody loves me. The only good thing about it is that the chocolate is on sale just before the day or even that week, since they need to clear it out for Easter candy.
JosieJoy, sorry if this thread was meant to be a cheerful one without the "Debbie Downer" stuff. But this subject is something I feel so strongly about I had to vent.
