Yeah, Xanax was the worst love/hate relationship that I ever had with a drug. You know how people say they were hooked from the first high? Well, that's how I was when it came to Xanax. I will never forget the first time I took them when I was 19. My boss had given me a couple bc I was crying over my grandfather dying. I had always had anxiety & panic attacks since I was a kid. When I first felt that calm, warm blanket feeling that Xanax gave me, I thought I had found the answer to all my problems in life. I was hooked from the first football that I ever ate. This went on for ten years. I had numerous DUIs & shoplifting charges bc I was ten foot tall and bullet proof when I was on bars. Xanax also made it very easy for me to have the nerve to try other drugs, so I got hooked on OxyContin during that ten years ride through hell. I ended up quitting last sept. Cold turkey. It was hell. Been clean since except for a bump in the road about a month ago. Just be really, really careful taking benzos. They're all addictive, not just xanax. I have been on all of them at one point or another. If you have any other problems with addiction, even if it is for something totally different than benzos, BE CAREFUL. Also, some docs don't tell you this, but when you do decide to come off of the benzos, even if you take them as prescribed, you will go through withdrawal unless you wean are weaned off of them. Also, you build up a tolerance pretty quickly.
