Another thing that helps if you can stand it is to mix up some jam combined with borax (powdered laundry booster/household cleaner). The ants will not taste the borax and take it back to the colony where it will kill off the ones who eat it. It takes a little time but it's cheap and relatively safe (obviously keep it out of reach of children and pets) and it works pretty well.
