I always get nervous when I see a new doctor and they see my scars. But they see that they are all healed and none of them are new, so that makes me feel safer, like I'm not going to get committed because I don't have any open wounds. On the other hand, when I was actively SH, I was scared to death that every trip to the doctor would end in commital. Regular doctors, other than pdocs and Ts, don't understand that SH is not about suicide, and hospitalization is only going to stop you for that short period, you're most likely going to go right back to it because recovery is a long term process.

I think especially ER docs need to be better trained in what SH is and when to actually commit someone or not.
