Two other things: it slows down your automatic/autonomous bodily processes (counteracting, most likely, anxiety and, maybe consequently, psychosis) and nicotine is neuroprotective.
What's unfortunate is that you have less appetite. There are always drawbacks.

And the feeling you get is not unlike that of antipsychotics (and it does work similarly, though it moderates instead of blocking: it's more indirectly effective).

Mania kills cells. Brain cells die. Memories become more reduced conceptually, making more efficient use of limited means. Memories shape our reality. Our memories are more or less split in two by abstractions, conceptual reductions. Mood states with memories, concepts, attached. Memories of pain and those of joy.
