It is possible that the paxil could have made your depression worsen. That's what the black box warnings are saying. It shouldn't have any longterm effects though once you're off the medication.
I was on paxil and several other anti-depressants as a teen and none of them made me suicidal but it sounds like it does happen occasionally.
