I'm glad it's not a longer wait as expected, though! Could the ER give you a prescription that would last the 5 weeks until your appointment, now that you can prove you have an appointment set?

Yeah....we don't have it much better over here in the EU. I keep trying to explain this to family and friends back in the states, but oftentimes they just don't seem to want to hear it because they want socialism to be this amazing thing that will fix everything and it's not. It's just as messed up, the problems are just different.
Unfortunately the ER can't give me anything. ERs are not allowed to give out prescriptions in our healthcare system. Yeah can give you a day or two worth of pills to take home with you, but that's it. Even if your broke your arm they'd send you home with like two pain pills and expect you to contact your primary care doctor to get an appointment to get more if you needed them.
