Maybe this pdoc has heard some new theories & thought they might work try them out on his patients. It is sad when we are the guinea pigs, but then again, as there is more & more research & knowledge about mental health issues, we will probably find these things being thrown at us in the future. Sometimes we need to be open to new concepts & new findings, but it is hard when we don't understand what they are talking about.
Maybe you should ask for a detailed explaination of what he was telling you, so you can understand what 2 degree disassociate means.....maybe it might apply....but wouldn't know until he is willing to give you the detailed explaination.
Sometimes we feel safe with what we have known ourselves to be & having something new thrown at us is very uncomfortable & confusing.....who knows, as time passes, maybe this new theory will become a standard Dx.
Thinking back at mental health issues just a few years ago as the DSM's were being written, even the Dx's we have now didn't exist.
Maybe this is a good time to point out that we aren't our Dx's..we are people who are dealing with certain challenges that we are Dx'ed with.....it is not who or what we are. That way, as time changes & more knowledge is aquired, we are more open to the new ideas when we aren't defined by them.
I know this is easier said than done, but this is just my thought on the situation,
Debbie
