What helped me was to get a couple of tall bookshelves and it didn't happen all at once and I'm still working on it but it's a lot better to at least get things more organized. You can find some cloth bins to store stuff you don't want to look at. I have found some decorative things at the thrift store and have given them all the good stuff I couldn't use anymore. If you have big things you can't transport some charity stores will come and pick them up.
