The peri-menopause thing is real, though I am not sure how to give you insight as to how to help her with it. It is an issue of hormone fluctuation and imbalance which is more physiological than psychological. If this is indeed what's happening (and I'm not saying it is), then that would have to be addressed in conjunction with counseling, I would think. I'm not sure how that could be gracefully discussed with your wife. Are you close with any women in her life who could discuss it with her? I'm just throwing ideas out, here.

(Side note...I'm wondering if this is the best thread for this topic? Not offended by it or anything, just want to make sure it gets the right attention!)
