I recently came across one of my weighted blankets from years ago. I thought lets try it and see what happens.. well it caused me to have nightmares, and major panic attacks. I am a sexual abuse survivor. the weight of the blanket triggered my body to remember the weight of my abuser, I have also been hospitalized on occasion and at times due to the type of mental disorder I had I was restrained. the weight of the blanket triggered memories of being restrained, weighted down during the abuse and hospitalizations. my suggestion to anyone who has never used this therapy approach (weighted blankets, or other therapy approaches that cause a person to be bound, squeezed, being restrained, held down... by objects like blankets, straps, water bags, sand bags, straight jacketing what ever other words used for this your location may use...) to contact your treatment providers, this way you can discuss with them whether based on your own history of abuse, flashbacks, nightmares, panic, whether this will work for you, and also will enable your treatment providers to be available should you end up accidentally causing yourself more harm.
edit..also there are some health issues that a person should never use these compression style therapy approaches...breathing problems (asthma, COPD, apnea...,) allergies where a persons allergic reaction is coughing, sneezing to get rid of the allergin, and other breathing problems due to allergies, organ issues, high blood pressure, circulatory issues like body parts going \feeling numb, seizure disorders, ... the reason treatment providers in my location can no longer use compression style therapies is because many documented deaths have come from doing them, due to compression style therapy.
