My daughter had an interesting thing happen to her. She went to use her debit card and it was declined. She checked her checkbook, and there should have been planty of money for this relatively small purchase, but no. She checked her account online and found that somebody had been shopping two or three times a day at a specific coffee house in Barcelona, Spain. This was going on for about three weeks. The bank refunded her the amount that was missing from the account, and closed the account, opening another to replace it. We have no idea how someone got her account number.
