sometimes part of the activity is making one to your own needs. less expensive too because you can use any spare cloth that is not being used like converting that pair of pants that dont fit, towels that have lost their use, sheets that no longer able to be used for sheets, and common household items like dried beans, powders, rice...
each of my children have a quilt made from their outgrown baby clothing, favorite blankets over the years, and a couple favorite stuffed animals that were beyond use. for my own weighted blankets I used favorite fabrics found in a craft store mixed with a few items from my family like I have quilted in a baby shirt from each of my children, and my wife also added one of her favorite items. my siblings also added squares of fabric from my childhood items that have been passed from family to family. each one of my weighted blankets has a spot where I can place my favorite scented sache (a square that is like a zippered pocket, where I place a home made amulet (pouch) bag that I can put my scent of choice into then slip the amulet bag into the zippered square on the quilt. since I cant use them for actual weighted blankets they are being used as bed spreads, wall decorative blankets and packed away for safe keeping.
self making a weighted blanket sometimes makes it even more special.
