Good for you for not getting sucked into your mom's projecting her unhappiness on you! Parent's so often take out their frustrations and anger with each other onto their kids. My mother did that with my whole life and has only stopped because she is so old now that she's too cognitively impaired to hold a conversation.

Laughing is the key and keeping a good distance when someone is aiming at me. I will go to the other side of the world, have coffee with my dad and kiss him, and then have a holiday in my home country which I haven't seen for 24 years.
