I think honesty is good most of the time but at time it's absolutely not, as it accomplishes nothing and is just tactless.
For example If you can't handle tongue clicking habit of your spouse maybe you have a problem, not them, or maybe you married wrong person. My fiancée has Tourettes. Tongue clicking is nothing compare to his noises lol. But I am also spec Ed teacher and nonsense behaviors don't bother me especially if people can't control them. Telling them their noises etc are annoying is pointless and offensive . Who needs the kind of honesty.
I don't see how this is harmful.
I think the point is to exercise common sense when attempt honesty.
