It may be hard to live without a AP, but it's possible.
I stopped taking them 3 years ago and I entered university a year later. I am still studying my 5 years long degree in a health sciencie.
It's important to always check reality, to follow a logic thinking pattern. I have a book with "rules" to never forget what I have to do when something different happens (for example, when reality broke and demons from behind talk to me).
I learnt to deal with most of "psychotic" things.
