I take a couple supplements that really help my bipolar that you might want to look into trying before you can get in to see the pdoc:

Bee Pollen (1,000 mg as needed for hypomania)- it usually calms down hypomania within about 30 minutes. Seriously. I'm sure it could help take the edge off mania, too.
NAC- (1,000 mg 3 x a day) It helps me with my obsessive thoughts (recommended by my psychiatrist). I think it can help with other MI symptoms, too, so I would look it up and see if it can be of assistance to stabilizing your mood.
Fish Oil- I am not good about remembering to take it, but it was once recommended by a psychiatrist to me.

Just thought I'd suggest some things you can do in the meanwhile before you can see the pdoc.
