Jbug,

I can really understand your dislike for these huge stroms. When I was 5 years old, my grandparents were moved to Kansas by the company my Gramps worked for (santa fe railroad). My Mother & I were in the apartment alone while my grams went to pick up gramps from work. All of a sudden, the sirens went off. My mom & I being from California, only knew the sirens as the cold war warnings. Luckily one of the maintenance men from the appartment came by & took us to the basement & told us there had been a funnel could sighting. Our first introduction to mid-west weather.

Then one summer right before we went to Kansas, a tornado went through the town of Topeka. My grandparents watched it from their basement & could hear it....said it sounded like thousands of freight trains. It was 4 blocks wide & went from one side ot town to the other. The tornado came in over a hill that the indians had burried the bones from a tornado years before it was even a city....they said it would ward off tornadoes from ever coming into the city again......guess nature had other ideas with this one....never believe in superstitions!!!!! The destruction was amazing....I had never seen anything worse....& even to this day, the earthquakes here in California haven't caused that much damage.

I know when I was just in Kentucky with the new farm I purchased, the huge thunderstroms were really scarry. I was out weeding & a storm was coming at us....my doggie was stressing & wanting to go inside. I finally agreed just before the rain started. The wind was strong & blowing everything. I went out on my porch to rescue my flag & got drenched. I stood in my entryway....dripping from head to toe. That was when I decided to go shower & dry off.....oh my what a stupid Californian. As I stood in my upstairs shower looking up through my sky light...I could see the lightning flashing all around. I got out of that shower so fast.....the vision of lightning coming through the skylight & into the shower wasn't a good picture....so I didn't want to even challenge mother nature. I have several trees in my woods that have been struck by lightning, so I wasn't going to take any chances & be a stupid Californian.

I can definitely agree with your dislike for this time of year....from late spring to early fall.

Debbie
