Creative people with different ideas have been labeled "crazy" before, particularly if their ideas go against what is popularly accepted. That's nothing new. And the more someone "thinks outside the box" the more some people might think she/he is crazy.
But I don't think someone who is threatened by this is "morally bankrupt." They would more likely just be insecure or rigid, or both.
And don't forget, John Nash, who was extremely schizophrenic, won the Nobel Prize for Economics.
