Hmm...

I know people with bipolar disorder are said to be generally more creative... maybe she made the statement meaning that schizophrenia and creativity are not linked, like bipolar disorder and creativity often are? I don't know how exactly it was said or in what context, but I'm sure she'd never make such a wide sweeping statement without some kind of explanation or reasoning. I've read a couple other of her books, and I never found her to be anything but honest and intellectual. I don't know if I am even close, but that's just my thoughts. No clue if the comment was even related to bipolar disorder, but that would be my first guess (under the assumption it is to do with bipolar disorder, since that's often the focus of her writing). I'll have to look into this book.
