If it makes you feel better, it has been my experience that Walmart sizes run big. (I am assuming your tale takes place in Walmart, because they are everywhere.)
Also, a 4 does not seem hideously thin-it seems quite normal to me-but you are a better judge of what is a healthy size for your body.
