It can be very hard on relationships to have depression. There is a desire to isolate or withdraw that leaves the other person feeling rejected. There are a lot of missed opportunities because you are having a bad time and can't just do certain things because it takes too much effort.
I don't think depression is a reason not to look for relationships if you want them. Being that you are in a mental place to deal with a relationship. (I. E. Your not a danger to yourself or others).
Depression is a real illness. There are people that are out there and understand what it is like.
For me loneliness amplifies my depression. Even though I have a hard time getting supporting sharing with my S. O. I don't want to not be in a relationship and I know she doesn't want me to go away or leave because I feel sad or depressed.
Just because you are depressed doesn't mean you don't deserve to be loved. If you want someone in your life you shouldn't stop looking just because you are depressed. Take a look at your life and illness and decide if you are in a state where you want to try and are able to handle a relationship.
