Can you ask for additional workload, even if it isn't directly related to your job title/responsibilities? Otherwise you might start looking for another position--any employer would love to hear you're leaving a job because you want to work MORE.

I am very sympathetic about the lack of friends issue. I switched jobs a year and a half ago and I have not managed to make an actual friend yet. I get a lot of cold shoulders and some polite civil interactions, but no one who actually likes me. It is very difficult to feel alone at work.
