alexandra_k is correct! You are "tapering" WAY too fast! if you read the UK website you will see that Professor Ashton's benzo equivalency table reads :
1 mg of xanax equals 20, yes 20 mg. of valium, so you were on the equivalent of sixty (60) milligrams of valium! You have reduced that by one half, which would be equal to 30 mg.s of valium! In how much time? Yikes may people take literally a couple years to wean down to where you have , sorry but your doctors are crazy - read the UK site and be armed with the knowledge you need. Print out the Ashton Manual, it's free on benzo.org.uk.
I speak from experience as I also weaned from 3mg. xanax down to 1.5 but I did a valium crossover. It was still H%$# but doable. I have been an iatrogenic xanax victim for over 20 years!
