1 in 4 people in the UK will suffer from a serious mental health problem in their life. Most people will suffer from some depression or have someone they know that suffers with depression.

The thing is depression can kill! That is why there are mental health services all over the UK. Now if it was as simple as just changing your attitude that would be great wouldn't it? Snap out of it! Great I'm cured! That would be great but it's not like that.

Mild to moderate depression can be treated with meds, therapy such as CBT, books on prescription, self-help tools, exercise etc...

More severe depression needs more than that, coping straterges and tools that need to be used all the time. That includes support sites like this one.

Serious mental health problems are often to do with emotional problems and trauma that happened in childhood. If you knew what I had been through you would be amazed that I am still alive today. I have been having therapy for about 6 years, once a week, sometimes twice a week and probably will be having therapy for evermore.

I hope this helps towards understanding depression.
